Slow Thunderbired email retrieval in Windows 11
I have 2 Windows 11 laptops running Thunderbird. Retrieval of POP3 account email takes 10 times longer on Windows 11 as compared with Windows 7. I have 13 different email accounts. If there is nothing new to download, my windows 7 computer takes 5 seconds to check all account. Windows 11 takes 50 seconds for the same task... clunking along very much slower. I have tried many approaches to tracking down the cause of the slowness. Antivirus software (Norton 360) and various Thunderbird and system settings. Nothing makes any noticeable difference. I'm at a loss for what to try or even to finding anyone discussing the same issue. I have been using Thunderbird on at least 4 windows 7 pcs with no such issue. Both my windows laptops have the same clunky slowness. I want to move to windows 11, but this is holding me back. Is this just inherent to Windows 11? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

It's not Windows. (I predict) You are using different versions of Thunderbird. Your windows 11 is likely using Thunderbird 140esr or 151.0, which has a change to pop which serializes mail fetches for pop accounts.
Windows 7 is not supported by those versions https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/140.0/system-requirements/ and is likely running a two year old version 115, which does not have this change to pop.
On Windows 11:
- Do you have the non-default setting of keeping messages on the pop server?
- Have you set an exclusion for the Thunderbird profile directory in your AV software?
- Are you running more than one AV software (including Defender)?
p.s. are you using global Inbox, where multiple accounts are putting their messages in the same Inbox? (also called deferred account - not the same as Unified Inbox)
p.p.s do you have automatic compact enabled (which is the default) or message retention set in any folder settings or in account settings > disk space > retention policy?
