NNTP: Thunderbird not working with newly added newsgroup accounts
My profile did previously work with news.eternal-september.org, although I very rarely used NNTP. The last active use might have been as long as July or August 2023.
A few days ago I added news.gmane.io, it did not appear in the sidebar.
- was originally in the sidebar, and responsive
- is not in the sidebar after removing then re-adding the account.
Can anyone reproduce this issue?
Environment
Thunderbird 140.0.1 (64-bit) on Kubuntu 25.10. Neither Flatpak nor Snap; my configured software sources include packages.mozilla.org/apt/ for deb.
/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/packages.mozilla.org.asc exists.
The profile was previously used on FreeBSD 15.0-CURRENT, if that's relevant.
Valgt løsning
I re-enabled the new Account Hub.

… View was set to Unified Folders .... not ALL
Without deselecting Unified Folders:
- I selected All Folders.
In addition to a UX issue:
- an unrelated bug added to the confusion
– I'll seek it in Bugzilla, but probably not today.

Try deleting those and re-create them this way:
- go to TB menu > Settings > General > Account hub > uncheck 'Create accounts in the new Account Hub'
- go to TB menu > New Account > Newsgroup
… as long as July or August 2023. …
Correction (I can not edit my post): as long ago as July or August 2023.
My report might be a duplicate of this (2025-12-15):
Sorry. I did seek NNTP before posting. The link to the December post was not noticeable until after I posted.
No different with the new Account Hub disabled.
