Is there a way to disable AI tag grouping before it rolls out to my device?
I don't know about you, but I loathe the recent push by the majority of tech companies to integrate the wasteful and environmentally harmful technology that is Generative AI into every corner of the digital landscape. I am especially disappointed in Firefox following the Gen AI hype and inserting it into our experiences as a default without considering the massive amount of users who are not interested in this tech for morons, those who want nothing to do with said tech, or people like myself who f***ing hate it. I am aware that you can shut off AI features by using Firefox's advanced configuration, so I'm wondering if such an option already exists for this coming rollout feature.
I for one believe Firefox should give its users the option to preemptively opt out of rollout features for things involving Gen AI which many, like me, are in vocal opposition against.

Hi Flora, are you referring to the browser.tabs.groups.smart.enabled preference? When this is set to true, an additional feature is enabled at the bottom of the tab group context menu:
Previous tab group solutions have offered this feature based on URL similarity; I don't know how Firefox's feature differs from that (haven't used it myself).
This feature has been part of a progressive roll-out, which means that it is enabled through the study/hotfix system. More info on studies: About Studies.
Anyway, Mozilla has a product suggestion site at https://connect.mozilla.org/. If you have time, I think it would be a good idea to post your request there to get into the current feedback stream.
Hi Flora, I'm not a Firefox expert or active volunteer but I just want to know: why all that loathe against GenAI? I'm a high school student and I'm also really sad by seeing what GenAI is doing with our education -And not being capable of doing nothing about it. To have an idea, on a WEB PROGRAMMING class of my Software Development course, the professor asked us to ask AI to make the Front-End for us (css html and even js) so we can "focus" on the Back-End, using the excuse of being an "AI Enthusiast" or something like that. Result: the students used AI even for the back-end too, they've learned utterly nothing!! (Don't worry, I didn't used AI.. Not that much...)
Since you are in vocal opposition against it, I'd like to understand what makes you hate it to a point where such a "innocent" feature brings you to the support center to ask how to disable it. I'd be happy if you could at least share an article or something that explains why it is so bad. I personally use AI on my day to day and I don't find problems about it. -From my point of view, I'm even using it on the "correct way".
I know I'm not offering any support on this message, just virtually starting a chat here. I don't know if it's allowed and I'm sorry if it isn't but I really want to know why GenAI is so bad from your point of view. Spot it? We're actually discussing about the Mozilla Foundation purpose: Build a better internet!
As you can see, my English is not that good but I'm trying. Anyway: Greetings from Brazil! 🇧🇷
