Firefox 21 crashes whenever I click on a menu, address bar, or search bar

This has happened 9 times in a row. I also restarted my computer overnight and that did not fix anything. I believe Firefox had updated just before this starting happening yesterday. I am posting this through Chrome... Starting in safe mode and resetting Firefox have both not helped. Here is the latest Crash ID: bp-0b3b806d-2c69-4749-a959-6dbdf2130525

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I ran a scan with Microsoft Safety Scanner and MalwareBytes and removed the 4 infected files (nothing seemed major). Then restarted the computer and am still having the same problem. Thanks for the suggestion. When it loads it doesn't load all the buttons/address/search bars and then when I try to click on any of them it crashes. Here's a screenshot of a recent "load" right before a crash.

As a test of how Firefox 21 runs "uncustomized" on your system, could you create a new Firefox profile? In addition to bypassing current add-ons and custom settings, it should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.

Close Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using the search box on the Start menu:

firefox.exe -p

In the Profile Manager, click Create and accept the default folder location (to avoid data loss, do not link the new profile to any existing folder). To switch profiles after this test, you can close Firefox and return to this dialog.

Does Firefox's UI work correctly in the new profile? If not, then...

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files (but not your personal settings) and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:

Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/#desktop and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which for 64-bit Windows 7 is located here by default:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

Does that cure it?

Hi cs150, I should note that removing the program folder may remove plugins dropped there by some installers, such as the Microsoft Windows Media Player Plugin for Firefox. You may want to back up this folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\Plugins

Thanks for the suggestions everyone... I decided to uninstall and download Firefox fresh (rather than just update). Everything works fine now... Thanks.
