Certain Flash Videos Will Not Play (e.g. uStream live)

I'm having trouble getting certain videos to play. None of the live feeds on www.ustream.tv work. Nor do the videos on www.mtv.ca, nor those on www.kelbytraining.com. They all used to work just fine. Now, I just get a perpetual loading graphic. They all work fine in IE.

I've read the other threads relating to this and no luck. I've cleared my Macromedia and Adobe Flash Player caches in the %appdata% folder, cleared everything using CCleaner, disabled hardware acceleration in the flash player settings, disabled all of my plug-ins, permitted all inbound and outbound connections in my Panda firewall, disabled Panda firewall entirely, updated my flash player, updated firefox...and nothing seems to solve it.

Can someone please use your witchcraft to make it work again?

Thanks

Chosen solution

Tried the new profile and turned off hardware acceleration. No luck.

All entries in msinfo32 were either MSAFD or RSVP.

Tried the ping test in Firefox... WOULDN'T WORK!

Tried in IE...worked!

So I went back to the Firewall troubleshooting. This time I completely uninstalled Panda Global Protection 2011....AND THE VIDEO WORKED.

I decided to upgrade Panda to 2012. After install, video didn't work. After updating, IT FINALLY WORKED! Everything seems fine now.

Clearly was a Panda problem, and not a Mozilla problem. Thank you very much for helping me!

Hi,

Please also check if this happens in Windows Safe Mode with Networking.

The videos all work fine when running in Safe Mode with networking. What does that mean?

It could be Panda or another application interfering even after being disabled. Please also see this. In addition to Firefox, you may also want to check for anything related to plugincontainer.exe. Safe mode with networking still has the built-in Windows firewall, so Windows firewall can be ruled out, though in normal mode you can still check its rules for Firefox and plugincontainer.exe.

I don't think it's a firewall issue because I have the same AV (Panda Global Protection 2011) installed on two different machines. Same settings. No video problems on my desktop.

You can try to check in a new profile. Additionally, please also deselect Use hardware acceleration when available in Tools (Alt + T) > Options > Advanced > General. If the new profile is okay, you can later copy the needed personal data from the old profile. Firefox stores your personal data and settings in another location separate from its files/folder. A new profile would have the default Firefox settings (Tools (Alt + T) > Options, and about:config ), and usually would also be empty of any Extensions and themes (Appearance) in Tools > Add-ons) and their settings. Also, a new profile would have no previous stored website data/settings etc., (Tools > Clear Recent History).

You can try to compare the three systems' performance here: http://pingtest.net/ Not sure, but if Panda uses LSP, possible LSP corruption can hit network performance. You can also do a manual check: type msinfo32 in the Windows Run box (Windows key + R), expand Components > Network > Protocol and look for entries other than MSAFD or RSVP.
