cache2/entries folder in Profile

I have very many POP3 e-mails stored in my profile going back over 10 years.

I also have 19,259 mostly small (<50kb) but long-named untyped files in the cache2/entries folder These make a backup take a long, slow time until they're all copied, then the copying speeds up for all the other data files taking much less time.

What are the cache2 files for, and is it essential for them to be kept at all times?

Thanks David

I don't have precise details, but if you delete them they will eventually come back.

As for your backups, caches should be excluded.

Wayne - Thank you very much for this reply and solution. I will try this!

If I exclude the cache2 folder contents from a backup, and should I ever need to restore from the backup, do you think the empty cache2 folder needs to exist in the backup, or will it be re-created along with the contents?
