Windows 10, Firefox 89.0.2 (current ver, and prior). Often (not always) when I use google maps and click on "Satellite" view, the map tries to update a few times over 20-30 secs, goes black, and after a delay, a system error pops up saying "Application firefox.exe has been blocked from accessing video hardware". If I tap F5 to refresh the google map tab, then it works fine until the next time I start FF.

I found nothing current in FF community about this. I just go finished refreshing Firefox (Windows Apps, FF Uninstall, Refresh) with no improvement. I have an HP laptop about a year old, with all drivers up-to-date and Windows 10 up-to-date. This problem started several months ago, after no problems like this during the first year with this laptop. Suggestions?

Chosen solution

FredMcD, Thanks for the suggestions.

Here are the symptoms: Google maps tab goes black when switching to Satellite View the first time, with a Windows popup that FF crashed the graphics driver.

Short answer: Installed the most recent Intel graphics driver set using their tool here (from April 2021, the one's my laptop had were from Oct 2020): Update Intel Graphics Driver https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html FF: Google maps work great. Problem solved.

Details: FF Re-installed (current ver 89.0.2): Google maps issue remains. FF TroubleShoot Mode: Google maps work fine. FF Disable all my add-ons: Google maps issue remains. FF clear cookies and cache: Google maps issue remains. FF support community: Another big clue. FF support community shows no one else discussing a problem like this.

Sooooo, then I look in the systems logs, find the graphics system crash error: System log: graphics driver crashed, igfx. Search online for igfx: Intel Graphics Driver. Installed latest Intel Graphics Driver.

FF and Google Maps are once again playing well together.

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
