When i close firefox it does not close the task, the process is still running. I have to manually close it every time with the taskmanager and i have no clue why this is like that. I already repaired firefox but this didnt change anything. Im not sure if this is a Windows problem or a Firefox problem but i think its Firefox because this error occur on a Windows 7 and a Windows 10 System.

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Let the browser sit for a few minutes. Then close it. Is the problem still there?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version?cache=no Did you update Firefox to the latest version 66.0.3 April 10, 2019

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar to see whether that works better.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

Yes i did. But this didnt change anything.

Even alt+f4 dont help. Only shut down the task.

One thing i detected was when i wait about 10-20 seconds the task will close by itself. But this is way to long.

Same problem.

I have the same problem, especially when I come off a VPN. I close all active tasks, then there are always three background tasks, one of which can only be closed by rebooting the computer. This has been happening for weeks. I just literally downloaded the latest version of Firefox after a clean removal using Revo. About fed up with Firefox and it's constant problems.
