when I click on a link to open in a new tab, it starts to, then disappears.

Does anything try to load on those pages? Does your history show those links?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
