You can check in the the Windows Control Panel if you can find "NVIDIA Network Access Manager" or "NVIDIA ForceWare Network Access Manager" and uninstall this software.

Hi ChadS, did this just start after a recent update, Firefox worked normally before?

Could you test/confirm which of these are not working:

  • Address bar: enter URL and press Enter, Firefox --
    • stays on the same page
    • loads a blank or error page
    • goes to an unwanted site
  • Click a link, Firefox --
    • works normally
    • stays on the same page
    • loads a blank or error page
    • goes to an unwanted site
  • Click a bookmark, Firefox --
    • works normally
    • stays on the same page
    • loads a blank or error page
    • goes to an unwanted site

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement? (More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode)

Thanks,

I tried all your suggestions jscher2000 but still didn't help - thanks for trying

I did remove the NVIDIA ForceWare Network Access Manager and restarted the computer. Now Firefox is working fine. Had been looking for updated drivers for my NVIDIA componenets though I wasn't aware that anything had been downloaded. cor-el, I am not sure how you knew to look for NVIDIA software and to remove it, but that did the trick. Apparently a known issue between NVIDIA and Firefox? What should I do in the future when looking to download updated NVIDIA drivers?

Thanks again
