Unresponsive Firefox nessages in my gmail acct., FB acct. and FB warning log ins from a different browser...
When I am inside my Gmail account checking my email I get the "Firefox is unresponsive" message all the time since about a couple weeks or so. I get the same when inside my FB page. And twice now I got a message from FB that tells me that s/o has logged in from a different browser and asks me to verify that it was me. I have not changed my browser. Please advise.
Thank you :)

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
- Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
- On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
- On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
Hello Mark,
thank you for your reply.
As you can read this step did NOT fix my problem. I am trying to avoid refreshing Firefox b/c it is so tedious to reinstall my persona. I may just take that step anyway b/c it is more annoying to wait and wait and wait for a page to load only to get the Firefox is not responding message than to reinstall my persona step by step.
I will let you know if Firefox is back to "normal" after refreshing it.
Thanks!!
This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
- check the permissions on the about:permissions page and in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"
If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies got corrupted.
- Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookies files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox profile folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.
Hello cor-el,
I did everything you suggested and I still have this problem as well as another one that keeps returning. I get a safety message from FB telling me that I supposedly logged in from a different browser asking me to confirm that it was indeed me. I do not understand that b/c I did not change browsers?
Please advise.
Thank you, Heidrun
Is if Firefox giving you that message, or the web site?
These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox
FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
