Firefox quit opening a new tab when I open a new tab. This overwrites the page I was on. I have to open the history to try and find where I was. This is ery frustrating and a waste of time.

have you looked at Settings > Tabs and Browsing
Yes I have changed those settings every way I could. "Open tab in new window does nothing."
And it's you opening the new tab (i.e. CTRL+click, or "Open Link in New Tab" menu item) — or you expect the site to open these for you?
If you try this testing page and click the example link there, does it open in a new tab for you on its own?
