Firefox stopped connecting to internet today.

juadavey

As of Aug 23rd, Firefox no longer connects to the internet (not site-specific) with this message: Unable to Connect. All other browsers work with fast loads. FF has been incredibly slow loading pages for weeks now but it would eventually connect until today. It is not a network/firewall issue as I've checked to make sure all was set correctly. I have cleared cache, turned VPN off, refreshed app, uninstalled/reinstalled and nothing has changed.

If I find the same tomorrow, I will just have to stop using altogether and choose another default browser as there is no point in a browser that is slow and unreliable. It's a shame since I've been using FF for many, many years.

Not very clear as you say but it would eventually connect until today. So how are you able to post here, via another device ??

It's only FF that can't connect to any website's server. All other browsers work just fine and quickly. I logged into my Mozilla account to post this from a different browser. FF has same problem today so I think I'll just have to use alternative browsers since none of the (not too helpful) articles on FF problems have fixed this. I did see one post that someone had to create a new Mozilla profile to solver her connection problem but that doesn't make any sense to my why a new profile would allow a connection when existing won't.

Is this something your provider of security software (or networking hardware) could help you with? Are you sure there's not anything poking its nose into the connections or decrypting the protocols on the line and failing badly, or routing something its own special way etc., beyond the usual firewall allowlist issue described e.g. in Fix problems connecting to websites after updating Firefox?

Does changing any of Firefox settings for "DNS over HTTPS" to either different provider or just turning that feature off (or, conversely, on if it was disabled) change something? There are also Proxy settings that you might want to check, e.g. going from auto/system to off etc.

There's about:networking page that has e.g. "DNS" tab that can help you spot any weirdness in recent connections — if they get to resolve to the expected host like anything else — to see if the connections are blocked, or just newer cryptography gets stalled, or the hostname resolution can affect the results — do any of these load for you?
