^^This message comes up every time I try to send an email. It can be received outside of Thunderbird and to other addresses.

That is a standard error from yahoo that your authentication method does not suit them. SO change what you are using in the outgoing server (SMTP) entry to something acceptable. I think for Verizon only an app password generated on the aol web site is now acceptable.
