When I type google and hold the Ctrl and hit Enter nothing happens any more. In fact the keyboard does not work in the address bar at all? Even if I type in http://www.google.com and hit Enter nothing happens? Only when I click with the mouse on that little right-arrow icon (far right of the address bar), then it works? Whats going on? Thanks!

That issue can be caused by the AVG Safe Search extension

Start Firefox in Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
