Many web pages provide an email icon to send an article to a non subscriber. When I try to do this Firefox wants me to open New Outlook. I use Classic Outlook and don't want to use the new version. How do I fix this?

Hello,

You can fix this by making the emails go to to classic outlook app.

To do so, do this : Go to settings (or win+ I) Go to apps>default apps, search mailto and select it.then in the list, select Classic outlook as the standard mail app.

In classic outlook, click file>options>advanced, then under link handling, make sure that Classic outlook is set as the default.

If Firefox still requires new outlook prompt, you can do this : go to Menu>settings>General>applications, then search for mailto, then select the classic outlook.

Something has changed in past several weeks. For several years my EMAIL A LINK TO THIS PAGE on the Firefox Menu Bar always took me to Outlook (classic). In the past several days, it now opens Outlook New. I have followed the last suggestion above, but even when selecting Outlook (classic), the Outlook New program opens. I have looked in the second suggestion above ( click file>options>advanced), but cannot see anything for making "sure that Classic outlook is set as the default". (BTW, I am using Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2021). Where exactly do I find the option to make Outlook (classic) the default? PS. Outlook (classic) is already the program I use within my Office application, and it's icon is started / saved on my taskbar.

I found the fix. (Some recent update, not sure if Windows or Firefox, changed settings without any input from user). In Windows → Settings, the default application had been changed / reset (I don't know how!) to Outlook New. To change / revert back to Outlook Classic, follow these steps:

To set Outlook (Classic) from Microsoft Office 2021 Professional Plus as your default email handler, you need to configure your Windows default application settings and handle any automated overrides from the "New Outlook" app. → Set Outlook (Classic) as the Default Windows App: 1. Open / Click the Windows Start Menu and click the Settings 2. Click Apps in the sidebar, then select Default apps. 3. Scroll down or use the search bar to find Outlook (Classic). 4. Click on it, and click Set default at the top right. 5. Ensure the file types .eml, .msg, and the MAILTO protocol link type are all mapped explicitly to Outlook (Classic).

Hope that helps. It worked for me.
