thunderbird not connectiong to email server. "cannot connect, invalid command"
When Thunderbird automatically goes to my email server to check for mail. I got a message on the screen that says "cannot connect, invalid command" I contacted Tech Support at my email provider and insured that my incoming and outgoing server setting were correct, They were of course I have been using them for several years now and I did not recently change them. The tech said there was no problem on their end and that I should possibly contact thunderBkird tech support in case the App has been infected with a virus. Help!

I doubt you have a virus.
Have you seen https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cannot-receive-messages ?
If you still have trouble: 1) Please post a screen shot of the error. 2) Please post your account settings (without user names) seen at Help > Troubleshooting information. Select only the account information text with your mouse. It will look like...
account1 (none) Local Folders None Normal password account2 (pop3) pop3.live.com:995 SSL/TLS Normal password smtp.live.com:587 STARTTLS Normal password true account5 (pop3) promail.ptd.net:995 SSL/TLS Normal password promail.ptd.net:25 None Normal password true account10 (imap) imap.gmail.com:993 SSL/TLS OAuth2 smtp.gmail.com:587 STARTTLS OAuth2 true
I'm having the same issue. It is extremely frustrated.
I've had my email on Startlogic servers (now iPage) forever with no issue while connected using outlook 2010. Now that I'm moving to windows 2011 Home, I want to be able to use a free mail client. I was told Thunderbird was the absolute best option. Unfortunately, the tech support folks at iPage say it is an issue with Thunderbird.
I can send email from Thunderbird, but there are no incoming emails. I'm told to use "imap.ipage.com" with port: 993. The connection security is "SSL/TTL" (and the fetch certificate works fine). The authentication method: is Normal password.
Everytime I go to read messages I get an internal error that momentarily flashes that tells me to check the logs (of course I have no idea which log to check).
I'm at a complete loss.
