Using Firefox with Windows 7

more options

I received two good responses but the projected end dates of August or September concern me. What happens after that? Is there any solid plan now to extend that or another version 115? Or should I go to another browser - then the issue would involve transfer of the bookmarks from Firefox to a different one and how long will it work with Windows 7? I need to continue using 7 at least for the next year or two. Suggestions?

1. Every other browser stopped supporting Win 7 long time ago. 2. In August the management will gather and make a decision. We can't say for sure wheher it will be prolongated or not.

When the Extended Support Release of Firefox 115 stops receiving security updates, it will be in a similar situation to Windows 7 itself: security vulnerabilities and incompatibilities are likely to mount up over time for both programs. If you can live with the risks of using Windows 7, you may find yourself willing to accept them for Firefox as well.

The only choice you have is to continue using FireFox until they no longer support Windows 7. Once Mozilla stops supporting 7, you can look at other browsers. Here are 2 which I heard of and only offer for your review. I doubt they are as feature-filled and robust as FF. I have not used them at all. Use at your own risk: Waterfox Pale Moon

I don't know if they will also discontinue support when FF does. I recommend you use a hardware firewall, such as a router, if you use Windows 7. Otherwise, you will be open to attacks from the outside. This is not a guarantee but will offer some protection.

Eventually, you should switch to Linux such as Linux Mint. I am seeing reports that FireFox may have changed their privacy policy. That's why I am in this forum to find out. The main reason why I use FireFox is because of their privacy policy. Windows 10 and 11 have telemetry which is unacceptable. Once you switch O/S's, you can use Brave browser if it becomes necessary.

It just means unless Mozilla extends updates for a third time the last update may be Fx 115.27.0esr in August. The updates are for security/stability fixes. Firefox will still work though there are already websites that it may not work with or thinks it is a old version and insists on you upgrading.

The old 115 ESR channel was originally going to end at Firefox 115.15.0esr but then Mozilla extended it from 115.16.0esr to 115.20.0esr only to to extend again in order to give longer support to Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and macOS 10.12, 10.13, 10.14 OS users.

Every other web browser that is Chrome.Chromium based already stopped supporting the old eol Windows 7, 8, 8.1 back in Jan/Feb 2023.

SeaMonkey still supports Windows 7, 8, 8.1 however that may change after Windows 7, 8, 8.1 is no longer supported with Fx 115 ESR.

If you think Mozilla is selling data like private data then that is false. You still have control of what little data you send to Mozilla on whether to send it or not just as before the new terms of service for Firefox was made.
