Unable to log in to "trusted" web sites with Firefox.

Hello, Thanks in advance for your help. I am having trouble logging into "trusted" web sites with Firefox and every update seems to add to my problem. By "trusted" web sites I mean sites like Charles Schwab, Spectrum and iCloud as well as my city's water department and my local hospital's portal. It doesn't matter whether I use "normal" Firefox or its privacy mode or safe mode-the problem persists. I am running Firefox version 134.0.2 but the problem goes back several months. I have Windows 10 and use Malwarebytes Browser Guard. The only other add on I use is Print Friendly & PDF. It doesn't matter whether these addons are running or not. The problem seems to involve either a loop, blank fields or very odd error messages. Some examples are below:

iCloud allows me to get to the point where it asks me to supply the 6 digit verification code. I enter the code and the site loads. Approximately 2 seconds later, before I can navigate to anything in iCloud, I am taken back to the log in screen to start over. The loops repeat as often as I want to try. Clearing cache and history does nothing. Since there is nothing abnormal (no error message or blank fields) I have not included a screen shot.

Spectrum allows me to enter my credentials waits a while and then gives me an odd error message about Feature Unavailable and suggests that I try logging in from home. I might add that all of these problems occur while I AM at home. Screen shot attached.

Charles Schwab allows me to get to the log in screen but the screen is unusable. There is a message that the session has timed out and I need to log in. The log in sections of the screen are blank which leads me to believe that the page is not loading all the way but that is a guess. Screen shot is attached.

I can log into all these pages with Edge (which I dislike using) with no problems at all.

I have Firefox set to automatically delete cookies and site data when closed. Privacy is set to Standard.

I would really appreciate any help that you can give me. Please note that the screen shots are BMP files that I had to rename to GIF files to get them to upload.

Thanks again,

Charley

Hi Charley, the problem of being signed in but then signed out as a site moves you between servers can be caused by the "Total Cookie Protection" feature. As a test, since these are sites you trust, try turning off Tracking Protection on each page -- by which I mean, on the main site and on the login page. To do that, click the shield icon at the left end of the address bar (next to the lock). Once the drop-down opens, click the slider switch to turn off Tracking Protection. Firefox should reload the page but, if it doesn't, you can Ctrl+R reload it youself.

Any improvement?

Thanks jscher200 but no luck. I tried your suggestion but all three accounts I cited act the same way as before with Tracking Protection turned off. Thanks anyway!

Did you also ask them the recommended browser to use their site with? It could be their security access only recognizes particular browser that matches their security check to access their site? And because it worked one day doesn't it fails the next day as they could've updated their security so now Firefox doesn't work on their site. At that point they will have to explain why it doesn't work on their site.

Hi Mark, Thanks for your suggestion. I Googled which were the recommended and supported browsers for the 3 sites and the results were interesting. Spectrum: Recommended- Chrome Supported-Firefox, Edge Schwab: Recommended-Firefox 28+,I.E. 11 Supported: I.E. 9 + (REALLY!) iCloud: Recommended- Firefox,Chrome,Edge, Opera

So Firefox should work on all the sites. And it did work on all of my sites until about 4 or 5 months ago then gradually seemed to be less compatible.

Thanks for your suggestion!

Some more information. I tried various combinations of turn off my 2 addons and adding exceptions to my popup blocker in Firefox even though I had tried all of this stuff before (several times). Bottom line-I get the Spectrum site to work with Firefox by disabling Malwarebytes. That is the only site (of the 5 problem sites) that I was able to get to that I couldn't get to before. I had tried disabling Malwarebytes on the Spectrum site before and it didn't make any difference. I thought about downgrading to an earlier version of Firefox but don't want to set up a new profile.

I really miss Netscape.

I have a similar problem with The Globe and Mail site in Canada, and their technical support people say they have lots of problems with Firefox., and suggested using another browser. We did the usual things such as clearing cache & cookies, but all that did was frustrate me as I then had to re-establish all my other log-ins, but still couldn't get into their site. I had this problem with another site off and on - i.e. sometimes I couldn't log in, other times I could, but lately it's all been good. In both cases I was always able to log in with Chrome.

Forgot to mention that I tried G&M site login with Malwarebytes turned off - it didn't make any difference.

They could try a bit harder!

Did you already disable Tracking Protection on the site? See my earlier reply in this thread.

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions. After spending a lot of time on these issues, I gave up. I really liked Firefox and how everything was organized and logical. Unfortunately I can't get into some sites using Firefox and rather then using one browser for some sites and another one for the sites I couldn't get into with Firefox, I bit the bullet and switched to Chrome. I have no problems getting into any of my sites now. Goodbye Firefox.

"I have Firefox set to automatically delete cookies and site data when closed. Privacy is set to Standard."

This is a bad idea for all those sites you have mentioned - they depend on cookies and site data. For me, just deleting cookies broke both schwab and chase. Spectrum isn't really interested in security - it wants faces. They all will tell you at some point to try another browser - I have never (and it has been said to me MANY times) found that to work, nor has deleting history/cookies ever worked for anything. The major problem is that there is a concerted effort by scammers, phishers, and the whole lot to break through and AI seems to be more on their side currently.

I had set those settings a long time ago and had no problems with any sites until 5 or 6 months ago. I upgraded Firefox and then one of the sites (don't remember which one) stopped working. After that it seemed that every time I upgraded Firefox , I lost the ability to go to another site. I didn't change anything. This one is on Firefox I believe. I'm done with Firefox.
