I have custom URL's set when opening my homepage. For the last few weeks, Firefox has been opening tabs from the last session. I've checked the URL's and they are correct in the settings but for some reason they're not loading properly.

These are the correct URL's in the setting page. https://www.etsy.com/your/shops/UiJewelryMaui/tools/listings/state:sold_out,sort:sold_out_date,stats:true|https://www.etsy.com/messages?ref=seller-platform-mcnav|https://www.shopify.com/|https://maui.clareityiam.net/idp/login|https://outlook.office.com/mail/|https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0/r?pli=1|https://www.microsoft365.com/?auth=2|https://www.canva.com/|https://hawaii.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/parents/hawaii.jsp|https://mauinews.org/pub920.htm|https://www.mauicounty.gov/Bids.aspx?CatID=19|https://hiepro.ehawaii.gov/vendor-dashboard.html|https://us2.admin.mailchimp.com/campaigns?ref=plums_nav&_ga=2.43380451.756894218.1698551103-1299448220.1698551096#f_bucket:recent;t:campaigns-list|https://hawaiicovid19.com/

However, the pages that load at start up are not these URL's, instead they're opening with the ones in the photo I provided. How do I fix this or do I need to select a different default browser?

Make sure "Open previous windows and tabs" is not enabled in settings. If Firefox crashes, the last session will be restored instead of your homepage(s). You can disable this by going to about:config and changing browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash to false.

The "open previous windows and tabs" is NOT checked and it's not an issue with the browser crashing. It doesn't happen each time I start up but it's been happening enough that it's getting old and frustrating. If I click on my home icon, it will open the correct tabs. Is this a bug that needs fixing?

If the profile is not closed cleanly for any reason it will be treated as a crash and attempt to restore the last session. Does it still happen with browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash set to false in about:config?

If Windows is shutdown while Firefox is still running, the last session will be resumed on startup unless toolkit.winRegisterApplicationRestart is set to false.

It doesn't happen when I shut down the computer or windows. It happens while I'm using Windows and my computer throughout the day. If I exit out of the browser and then attempt to open it again, later, sometimes it will not open the correct tabs unless I click on the "home" button.

If there is a hang when Firefox closes and Firefox isn't able to close properly, then the watchdog timer forces closing Firefox with the result that the next time the previous session will be restored.

Make it a habit to use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing this by clicking the close X on the Firefox Title bar, especially if you have multiple windows or Private Browsing windows open to prevent losing tabs in unnoticed windows.

  • "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

So simply just clicking the "X" in the upper right hand corner to exit, can cause the browser to hang? I've been using Firefox for 20 + years and I've NEVER had this issue before. Thank you for all the help and suggestions

@cor-el Well, sadly, even closing the Browser by means of "3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button) Windows: File -> Exit Did NOT solve the problem either. Thinking I just need to stop using Mozilla Firefox as my browser.

Does it still happen in a new profile? An easy way to test a new profile is to install Developer Edition and see if it happens there or refresh your existing profile.
