When I go to create a new bookmark in firefox I find that the file name is already allocated, and that file name is appearing on all old bookmarks as well. Instead of saying Other Bookmarks it says Location. This is only happening since I moved to Version 95.0 I have had to stop trying to create new bookmarks, and would appreciate any help I can get.

How are you creating the bookmarks ?

The "Edit This Bookmark" dialog that opens if you click the highlighted star has a checkbox with "Show editor when saving" (shortcut key in the dialog is Alt+S). This item is at the bottom just above "Remove Bookmark" and "Done". You can click the highlighted star a second time to open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog.

See "How do I change the name or location of a bookmark?"

Sorry about all the problems. To create a New Bookmark I click on Bookmark Current Tab in the dropdown menu in Bookmarks at top of page. Normally it would then open and say Other Bookmarks, and I would allocate a folder of my choice. But since this problem happened the box opens with the folder already allocated, usually the last one that I used. After I have normally allocated a folder of my choice I click Save and that is it. Click on Bookmarks at top of page, dropdown menu says Bookmark current Tab. Box opens with Other Bookmarks showing, Allocate whatever file number I want, and then click save. That sequence is now broken because when I click on Bookmark Current Tab, an already filled i Location Box opens, taking my choice away. When I go to create the next new bookmark it will already have the location of the previous bookmark allocated.

You can change the location the bookmark is saved to before you save it.

Making a bookmark.

On the page you want to bookmark, do a right-click in an empty area of the page. At the top of the menu, press the Star. Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) D.

Or, Press the bookmarks Star on the toolbar.

This will place a bookmark in the Unsorted or Other Bookmarks Folder. To edit or move that bookmark, press the Star again.

A window will come up with the name of the page and its web address. You can edit these entries.

Next, select what bookmarks folder you want this bookmark in. If you do not see that folder, go to the far right of the Folder line, and press the down arrow. You can also create a new folder.

Still working the same way. I don't see an Unsorted Folder. I see Bookmarks Toolbar>Bookmarks Menu>Other Bookmarks and Choose. But still New Bookmarks are opening with Location already filled in. When it was working properly that field showed Other Bookmarks and I could fill in the location of my choice. Now the location is already filled in, probably the location of the previous bookmark.

It is past midnight here. I appreciate your time and patience but I will have to try again tomorrow. Take care.

Yes, Firefox fills the location folder to make it easier to save multiple bookmarks on a page in the same folder.

You can look at this extension on the Add-ons website.

Thank you. I think that it is a crazy idea.

Today I opened an old laptop that has not been used for some time. Firefox was on Version 71.0 and it was a joy to use normal Bookmarking. It would appear that my current bookmarks are Not Corrupted and that my suspicion about a change taking place with version 95.0 was not my imagination. I need to get back to proper bookmarking, with your help please, but not as far back as V 71.0.
