When the emails get downloaded from my online email they stay on my online email causing it do past its storage limit. How can I set this to delete the emails from my online account once it has emailed?

So your account is IMAP. With IMAP all mail is managed on the server, and what you see in Thunderbird is basically a mirror of what's on the server. If you delete a message in Thunderbird, it get's also deleted on the server and vice versa.

'to delete the emails from my online account' you'd need to move messages off of the server to your Local Folders account.

Since you do not seem to have a clue what IMAP is all about, POP may be the better choice for you. With POP messages are automatically removed from the server upon reading.

You cannot simply convert an existing IMAP account to a POP account, you'd need to create a POP account first. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/faq-changing-imap-pop

Note, if you do that, you'll possible have to download a large amount of messages initially, and they will be removed from the server then.

'online email'?

What are you talking about?

What is your account type - POP or IMAP?

My emails go through "a small orange" email provider. When I open thunderbird it downloads the email to my computer. I want it automatically delete the messages from the online account when it downloads them to thunderbird.

I am not sure... how can I check?

Your supposed answer is pretty much useless. I have a POP account and it DOES NOT automatically delete emails from the server. It used to but doesn't now. The question asked and the one I need answered is how to solve the problem of emails not being automatically deleted from the server.

Maybe because it is not your question and the original poster has an IMAP account. The original poster seems happy with the answer 5 months ago.

How about starting your own thread with the details of YOUR problem. No need for your attitude either.
