How does one specify which program opens a .zip file after it is downloaded?

Presently, the download functions properly, but when I click on the file, VLC media player opens; have no idea why; how can I specify 7-zip File Manager instead?

Firefox wasn't working well on a seldom-used laptop, and the update to 100.0.1 didn't go quite right, so I deleted the old version and (using the odious Edge) tried downloading a fresh copy of the software.

But then I get a message from "7-ZIP" that reads "Can not create temp folder archive"

I'm stuck. Advice?

My old 2009 MacBook Pro broke, got fixed, and now the backup won't transfer. So I need a new Firefox.

OS X El Capitan V10.11.6 is the latest this old computer will handle. On the mozilla.org download page, the app on the .dmg that gets downloaded says it wants OS X 10.12 or later.

I'd appreciate your suggestions.

I have updated with the newest Firefox web browser today. Now I can't open Firefox because my computer is too old for this new version. Because I have totally replaced my old one with this new, I cannot go back..

And actually, I don't know what is the right version for my computer. I think I found some very long list of old versions(https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/), I don't know which one is right for me and how to install from there - I tried some of them..

If anyone can post the link of right one for my computer and inform me how to install it from there, I'd really appreciate it..

Hi, just bought a new laptop which is loaded with windows 11, and I cannot download Surfshark vpn, I go to google and it will not even open any surfshark page, I assumed it must be something to do with safesearch, so I clicked on the safesearch button but it does not give me the option to turn it off it just states 'You don't have permission to change your SafeSearch setting. It's locked by the device or network that you are browsing on' !! how do I get over this? any help appreciated,

I'm not exactly sure what this is called. Maybe it's in the cache, but I don't know. One of the fastest timesavers I have is that I use the Firefox url feature that makes suggestions as soon as I start typing a url. I pull up dozens, possibly hundreds of articles that I refer to frequently this way, so that I don't have to bother bookmarking them. I don't clear the cache, to keep these references from disappearing. I have to move computers now. My longtime mac is not working well anymore. Is there any way to bring these url suggestions with me when I migrate? Thank you.

I would like to save my Firefox profile data into my computer as I would like to transfer the data to a different computer. Is there any solution to how to save it down?

Hi, I have some issue on the new updates on Version 101.0.1 (64 bit) Firefox auto-download all my files even when I am in view mode. Is there a way to disable this feature?

I am following all the instructions. It has continued to fail for the past year. I've uninstalled ff and reinstalled ff. I've tried creating new profiles. I can import everything into Chrome or from Chrome to MSE, but NOTHING will import into ff from any other browser.

Starting today, I went to download a .pdf file to open automatically with Adobe Acrobat as I usually do. However, this time I got a pop-up from Microsoft Word stating, "Word will now convert your PDF to an editable Word document. This may take a while. The resulting Word document will be optimized to allow you to edit the text, so it might not look exactly like the original PDF, especially if the original file contained lots of graphics."

I went to Settings - General - Applications, went down Contents list to Portable Document Format (PDF), and tried the various settings under the Action column, to include "Save File," "Always Ask," "Use Acrobat Adobe 2020." None of these worked or made any difference. I open numerous .pdf files every day and I need to be able to just click on them in the website and have them open in my Adobe Acrobat program - as they have up until today. What do I have to do to fix this? I am using Version 102.0.1 (64-bit).

I am using Pop OS, which is based off of Ubuntu.

Somehow I did something, and it made the icon disappear for Firefox. I figured I could easily search the internet and find a simple solution.

I temporarily fixed it last night, but here it is missing again.

I could upload a picture, but I don't see what difference that would make. The dock at the bottom has a spot for firefox, but no icon, literally an empty spot, In the application menu it is a blank spot with Firefox worded underneath.

I have uninstalled, reinstalled, purged, deleted the application data in my user folder..

Just annoying. not a huge problem.

I have a problem with opening files: Mozilla keeps saving them and ignores temp folder. I tried to modify browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel in about:config, but nothing happened. Can anybody help me?

i'd like to copy my Firefox profile from PC1 to a new PC2;

Last time i tried this, i ended up with PC2 having the same "name" as PC1 in "Sync". This caused weird sync issues, as the system thought my PC2 was PC1 as vice versa.

So, is it possible to copy my entire profile with all addons/settings, BUT, make "Sync" recognize it as a NEW pc ?

After this latest Firefox install, my zoom percentages are wonky. They were set at 100% before but now I have to adjust them to around 70% for the same zoom effect, but that doesn't fix how much taller the tab space is and bookmark space relative to the previous version.

When I installed version 103 on Windows 10 yesterday, the Tabs, address panel row of icons and the onscreen bookmarks icons doubled in size pushing about half of them off screen. Can I get them back to the size the were?

I keep them on screen to facilitate use and work more effectively. Pushing them off screen reduces the effectiveness of Firefox for me. I spent too much time today trying to find options that would allow me to revert to the former format without uninstalling v.103 - without success.

HELP!!!!

This is a very bizarre problem. Basically I can't install any Firefox addon neither on my desktop OR may laptop. I noticed this issue just couple of days ago. When I try to install any addon normally, from a link, it tells me that the addon can't be installed because the file is corrupt. Tried several addons, all same problem. On my desktop AND on my laptop. On my desktop I'm running ver. 103, but on my laptop I still had ver. 102.1, so there is no Firefox update issue. When I try to install addon from xpi file, it tells me that I have no permission to open that file and that's it. I tried to take ownership of that file but it didn't solve the issue I tried to disable my AV program, but it didn't do anything. On my laptop, I tried to refresh FF, no help. I tried to start FF in safe mode, same problem. I created new profile, same issue. Eventually, I totally uninstalled FF, removing program itself, removing Appdata folder and even registry entry. Installed fresh copy of FF, same problem exists. Then, I noticed one thing. When I tried to sync fresh FF installation on my laptop, it synced everything, EXCEPT for addons. So, something is preventing me doing anything regarding addons. Themes install just fine. I've struggling with this problem since yesterday and at this point I totally ran out of any fresh ideas how to solve this issue, thus posting here. I'll appreciate any fresh idea as what to do next.
