I just updated my McAfee Total Protection, version number 11.6. When I restarted Firefox, it had wiped out all my personalizations. Luckily, I had the sync server to fix the problems. I don't think the problem is Firefox, because it hadn't self-updated in a few days at least. Please be very careful to back up Firefox regularly to the sync server, because Total Protection defaults to "automatic updates", and you will not know until it's too late what has happened. This happened on two machines of my seven.

I lost: bookmarks, history, preferences, add-ons, customizations, favicons, cookies, etc. I had to reset many websites even after syncing (including McAfee itself).

I don't know how to prevent this from happening. Just a warning to those of us who use McAfee. Any suggestions on a solution would be more than welcome.

Do you have any McAfee add-ons in Firefox (such as siteadvisor?) These could possibly be causing the problem. Have you also tried to contact McAfee to advise them of this problem in their product?

Hello Tyler. No, I removed siteadvisor a while back, as I use WOT anyway. McAfee has "scheduled a Tier2 callback" on a related issue -- someone has hacked my McAfee server account and is using proxies to attempt to access my network. The mystery deepens, but it seems significant that this is all happening simultaneously. I will let you know if there are any developments that could explain this. I must say, I'm a little annoyed at McAfee right now, as I have been running a firewall without a break for months. Thanks for your attention to the problem.
