Surely developers included a basic feature to resume a download after firefox crashes. How do I activate it?
Surely the developers put in the basic feature of resuming a download after firefox has crashed from being nonresponsive. Where do I find this feature?

Firefox should be able to resume an unfinished download, if the server that delivered the download supports resume. In the download window, right-click that partial file and see if the Resume menu item is available.
Resuming a download may only work if the download is paused before closing Firefox.
In a case of a crash then that doesn't happen.
You can try the solution posted here if you can't resume the download:
"Resume download" doesn't mean that you need to pause the download first. That would be "pause download." Real resume means if the server you're downloading from is unavailable or your system crashes, you can start the download again. A real resume function needs to be added to Firefox. For now, most of us enthusiasts use Free Download Manager, which is Open Source now. It does what Firefox should be doing: Torrent downloads, mirrors, monitoring, and resume downloads.
