All messages ending in spam folder thunderbird after update to snap ubuntu

Sympol

Since I was upgraded to Thunderbird 155.0 64 bit (Meadow) snap version on my Ubuntu version 24.04 all incoming messages are going to my spam folder. I copied my old Thunderbord profile to my snap thunderbird folder to retain folders, settings etc. and although everything else works, my incoming mail is still going directly to spam. I have unchecked the 'enable adaptive spam' check box and also 'trust junk mail headers' box. I have run repair on my inbox and also the spam folder. I checked my mail server and the mail is not marked as spam there... Getting tired of manually moving messages from spam to my inbox several times a day...... Help!

AS this was originally set up, I have found it does not help to uncheck the spam settings and at this point it would be a pain to retrain as the training data would still be intact. Let's see if there is something else causing an upset.

In Account Settings > Spam Settings

I would advise you reselect the 'enable adaptive spam' check box Then select the address books you want as whitelists. Personally, I would advise you do not select 'trust junk mail headers' - leave it unchecked as we do not want that causing any issues or interfering.

  • Select 'Move new junk messages to'
  • Select 'Other' and choose 'Spam on the account name'

Do you have any Message Filters? If yes, can you please perform a test.

  • Access Message Filters
  • disable all the filters

You do not need to remove them - just uncheck the checkboxes to disable.

Exit Thunderbird wait for background processes to complete so we know all files are updated and are being used then restart.

Allow emails to arrive and see what happens when the filters are disabled but the spam controls are set up. Do you still have all your emails going to Spam ?

Thanks for the reply. I followed your advice above (checked enable adaptive spam, left trust mail headers unchecked, disabled all my mail filters (112 of them)) then shutdown Thunderbird, waited 20 minutes or so, then restarted... Unfortunately received 2 new mail messages, both of which went to spam.... Both messages marked as spam in the folder, no option to mark as not spam but there is an option to move to inbox again, which did move both messages to my inbox.....

This morning, after rebooting my PC it seems that my messages are now landing in my inbox as usual. It could be that something in my message filters was causing the problem - I read somewhere that a space in the message filter could cause the problem, so now I'll go through each filter and check, possibly switching on the filters a few at a time to see if the problem reappears.... Thanks for the help!
