Hi Louise, a Refresh resets the toolbars back to the basic set of buttons and controls. You should be able to add more using the Customize feature:

Are you able to access that screen?

Do you mean the edit controls on the toolbar ? You can find those on the customize page and possibly drag them to the toolbar.
