How do I change a website Favicon?
Hi, I have seen instructions on the Google search on how to do this but the instructions don't line up with the current version of Firefox. YouTube videos are all about using code which is beyond me. There must be a piece of software (app) or some other simple way to do this. Has anyone found a way yet?
Thanks, Pete

Hi Pete, normally Firefox stores the icon when you create the bookmark and it may updates it when you visit the site. There are two known glitches with that:
(1) If the site prohibits caching, Firefox won't save the icon*
(2) Sometimes Firefox requests a file that isn't compatible and the icon doesn't show on the tab, either (example: Politico site icon problem)
Site icons for URLs in bookmarks and history are now stored in a database file, and there's no built-in way for users to add an icon to the file (or modify one in the file).
I don't know what methods were used in old versions of Firefox. Did they involve extensions (prior to Firefox 57, extensions could modify pretty much anything) or userChrome.css files?
* If you find this very irritating, I have an extension that can help: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/cache-favicons-for-bookmarks/

Ar you the owner of this site? We don't help with web development.
I dont know how to respond to your response to my question for support.
No I dont own this site, and I am not looking for web development help. Firefox used to have a feature for changing web page favicons so that you could identify web pages tabs and pins. I dont know where it is now so asked for support.
Pete

Thank you jscher2000. Apparently there was a right click dropdown that had a change favicon which is not there now. I will check out your extension.
Cheers Pete
