I have had this problem for many years. Various passages in websites text have an overlay of what I do not know except that it makes those parts impossible to read. It seems totally random to me. To be honest I do not really understand what it is and have no idea how to fix it. Please see the image I have added. I would be grateful for any advice.

You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

What security software do you have?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Go to menu ≡ -> Web Developer -> Network.

Then refresh the page and check if every style and script has been loaded.

Unfortunately Ii did not solve problem. I did exactly as you said but I got as far as 4th article before problem noted again. I did notice "style check could not be loaded" at bottom of the page.

Anything red on a list? Perhaps there is a reason of not loading it in the Transferred column.

Nothing Red on the list, assuming I am looking at the right thing?

Thanks for all help. Could not solve problem so thought I would give MS EDGE a try despite the fact that I do not like it. Nevertheless, it appears to have solved the problem for me but we will see how it goes.
