How to uninstall Thunderbird and leave everything intact on the Outlook server side
Hi everyone,
It's one of those questions that gets asked out of pure fear of the unknown.
I installed the latest version of Thunderbird on a Mac, logged in with an Outlook account with all the default settings. As soon as the application began to copy/download e-mails from the server side to the local storage, I realized I was pretty low on storage, so I closed TB immediately to halt the process.
Bottom line is: how do I uninstall Thunderbird completely from a mac without it affecting all the e-mails on the Outlook webmail (server side)? In other words, I just want to return to the state of things as they were before I logged into Outlook on Thunderbird.
I sent a test e-mail and deleted it on Thunderbird and it also got deleted on the webmail used on the browser (I guess that is a sync feature of IMAP?). So now there's a rounding fear that if I mess enough with Thunderbird I might make a big mistake.
What's the correct procedure to leave everything as it is on the server side and get rid of Thunderbird (at least for now)?
I was thinking of turning off the WiFi and then deleting the application. Does that make any sense? Or should I delete (or log out?) the e-mail account from TB and then delete the software? Are there any folders or sub-folders that I should take into account after deleting TB? I mean folders that store e-mails/attachments/large-file-sizes that are eating up local space that I can also get rid of without any second thoughts.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

just uninstall it like you would any other application.
Did you set Thunderbird up using an IMAP connection to your Outlook account? IMAP is a mirror, it doesn't remove messages from the server during mirroring, but it will mirror deletions back to the server. A POP client may remove mail from the server after downloading, especially older messages.
Check on the server side to make sure your mail is still as you remember it before making your final decision on what to do. Also, to prevent further downloading/mirroring if you start Thunderbird again, change your password on the server side.
