Is your question in reference to the email address used by Firefox Accounts?

more options

Yes, the primary and Secondary email addresses get switched without any kind of warning or request from me.

Are you using the same email address to log in to Sync on all your devices?

Check the 3-bar Open Menu button that the top where it shows the Open sync preferences (on cursor hover) menu item which will display the email address for your Firefox Account.

Yes I thought I was, but now notice that rotracy@gmail is being used on the laptop (without my initiating that) and the rtracy@depaul is being used on my iPhone.

I have no idea how that got changed; it is a new feature that I am not familiar with and it has been "tweaked" a bit recently to male it easier to use.

Log out from Sync and then log in again with the email address that you do want used.

I logged out but when I tried to login using primary email account, I was told incorrect password.???

Check the Saved Logins page in that installation and verify the password for https://accounts.firefox.com is correct.

it is correct. I closed the program, reopened it; and somehow it logged in to rtracy, the primary account.

But I know from the symbols along side of these conversations that rotracy was being used.

I'm posting this from my Safari browser)

Perhaps it seems that it's flipping back and forth because I'm tired or don't know the program very well.

There is absolutely no relationship between your Firefox Account log in and the account that you have here in the Mozilla Support forum. You may have used the same email address for both, but that is the limit of any "connection" between the two; and that was your choice when you registered here a couple of says ago.

Thank you for taking the time to reply and clarify. It would be helpful if when I login to Firefox there would appear some welcome or some designation as to which account I am logged in under. As it is, I can be doing a lot of work when I am logged in under my secondary account when I think I'm logged in under my primary account.

I assume that I should be doing all of my work when I'm logged in under my primary account and not when I logged in under my secondary account. Is that correct? If so, why even have a secondary account? It's just another "thing" to pay attention to and get confused about.

Do you have 2 accounts? Two email addresses (Primary and Secondary) doesn't make for 2 accounts; it is one account with a Primary and a Secondary email address.

I am not sure of the total reasoning behind having both a Primary and a Secondary email address for the same Firefox Account, but if the user knows that they are going to lose access to the "Primary" email address (change of service providers or a known ahead of time job change) they can use the Secondary email address and keep using their Firefox Account. Before that was added the user had to create a new Firefox Account.

As far as knowing which email address is used for log in to your Firefox Account, hit the 3-bar button for Open menu and at the top it shows the email address that is used for your Sync log in for that session. Shouldn't change from one session on a device to the next launch of Firefox. The connection to the Sync server is made each time you open Firefox; automatic connection as part of the launch procedure.

If there is a problem with sending an email to the primary account then the Sync server might automatically try to send the same email to both accounts (primary and secondary) to see if either works.

I removed my secondary email so as avoid confusion.
