I am absolutely DISAPPOINTED with Mozilla of the scrapping of the XUL based FF extension system.. ITS FF's BEST FEATURE AND I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IT.
I am absolutely DISAPPOINTED/DISGUSTED with Mozilla over the PLANS TO SCRAP the XUL based FF extension system.. ITS Firefox's BEST FEATURE AND I CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT IT...?!
I hope this question/message will see the light of day and get through I use 9 extensions and only one of them HAS/CAN/WILL converted to Web-Extension(<-- POOR, not as GRAND or as USEFUL as XUL :p )
I have attached a copy of all the extensions I use/need
for example do to UNWANTED/LACKLUSTER UI changes to Firefox's UI I now need/use 'Classic Theme Restorer' addon.
It appears as though I will be FOREVER stuck using FF 46 the last version reported to use XUL..
I PRAY THIS MADNESS IS STOPPED, before it TRULY RUINS Firefox FOREVER..!!

and if that wasn't bad enough then there is e10 process separation AT LEAST IT CAN BE DISABLED so the FF extensions can still be used.. for now...
Sorry, this is not something that support forum volunteers can help with. I'm sure as Firefox 56 is nearing its end of life there will be extensive discussion on the usual sites about other options. You could keep an eye on these:
- Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/
- ghacks.net: https://www.ghacks.net/category/firefox/
- MozillaZine forums: http://forums.mozillazine.org/
You can use Firefox 52 ESR version to have support for unsigned and XUL based extensions. So no need to stay at an unsafe and no longer supported Firefox 47 version.
The API support for WebExtensions is still in an early development stage.
- Bug 1215059 - [meta] Extend WebExtensions with custom APIs so more legacy add-ons can be ported

I found my way here via bookmarked methods by which I some times give my thoughts on Firefox's development..
