reference error = google tag not defined.

this site has not worked for about 6 months. worked fine before that. it works in edge and internet explorer, I have restarted with all add ones disabled but it still reports the same issue. I get a screen that provides an option to "reload application" and to "clear internal data and reload application" but neither of those options help.

Thanks,

One thing you could try while you wait for any authoritative explanation is to use a fresh Firefox profile.

New Profile Test

This takes about 3 minutes, plus the time to test the site.

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

Click the Create a New Profile button, then click Next. Assign a name like May2017, ignore the option to relocate the profile folder, and click the Finish button.

After creating the profile, scroll down to it and click the Set as default profile button below that profile, then scroll back up and click the Restart normally button. (There are some other buttons, but I think those are still "under construction" so please ignore them.)

Firefox should exit and then start up using the new profile, which will just look brand new.

Does the digital viewer work any better in the new profile?

When you are done with the experiment, open the about:profiles page again, click the Set as default profile button for your normal profile, then click the Restart normally button to get back to it.

Do you view the paper in a private window? In that case, perhaps the Tracking Protection feature is affecting the Google Tags service. This article has more information on this feature and how to use the "shield" icon, if it appears toward the left end of the address bar: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content. There is security software that can interfere with loading content, so check that as well.

I have tried all these recommendations and it still does not work. It does not work on my wife's Surface Pro either. I have restarted Firefox in safe mode with everything disabled and it still doesn't work. I do use Ghostery but have paused it with no better result. I use Norton Internet Security but like everything else, that was disabled when Firefox was restarted in Safe mode.

I created a new profile and it worked. I then started Ghostery and it sill worked. I started Norton Internet Security and it still worked. I started LastPass and it still worked and has worked since.

I went back to my old profile and removed all cookies and it sill didn't work with that profile.

Just thought I would share in hopes it may help someone else or to identify a problem.

thanks

Thank you for doing the test. It's some less-obvious setting in your old profile.

Is there anything unusual on the Permissions panel for the site? With the site displayed, you can call that up using any of these:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Permissions (note: if a page uses Flash for the entire content area, this method won't work)
  • (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions
  • click the padlock or "i" icon to the left of the site address, then the ">" icon, then More Information > Permissions

Scroll down and check for anything that doesn't have "Use default" checked off. Also, if "Set Cookies" has a grayed bullet for Block, uncheck "Use default" and select "Allow for Session".

If that's not it, could you check whether "local storage" is disabled? Most likely, that would be here:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste dom.st and pause while the list is filtered -- this should show the four dom.storage preferences

(3) If the dom.storage.enabled preference is bolded and "user set" to false, double-click it to restore the default value of true and test to see whether that helps
