I have "ask" malware appearing everywhere. I have sought "ask" programs or files and I cannot find any , but "ask" appears on my searches. It is really annoying. I renewed my my operating system and have been careful not to inadvertently allow "ask" to fit itself in new apps. I am using Windows 10 with Mozilla Firefox as my browser. All are current.

I have tired to use a program called Searchreset 0.3, but I can't get a response from it. I search for "ASK" but I can't find anything to remove. I don't seem to have it's toolbar, but it is on any search. I have restored the operating system and have not knowingly exposed myself to "ASK". I don't want it to ever appear on my scree; can anyone help?

The offered solution above is like Greek to me. If I had had the knowledge to understand the response, I don't doubt that I would not have needed to ask for a solution

I have solved the problem:

I found a free program called adwcleaner , which is available from a number of sources but I recommend that if you order it to download, that you get an English version if you wish to use it and need to read instructions. I struggled a little with the download and install as there was little confirmation from the website. Essentially, it scans and lists and you can pick out the ASK files for deletion. I just removed all that was marked and I have not seen an ASK symbol since.

You may have ad / mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in current Firefox releases.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
