Hi Mozilla, Our business website rosecasual.com does not show the pictures at the top using Firefox on a pc, whereas with any other browser it presents fine. Also, at the bottom there are 2 pictures on the left, but on the right a 3rd box is a video and does not show a photo. All look perfect on Firefox with a Mac. Can you help fix this issue? I'm running 41.0.1 currently the latest version. I appreciate you looking to this. Dave Rose

Hi Dave, if you were using Always override with white on black, that definitely wasn't working. You could look for an add-on with a "night mode" feature or dark theme if you want a better way to manage website colors than the rather limited built-in settings.

Everything above the copyright looks the same to me in Firefox and Chrome on Windows 7.

Chrome has a weird plugin error below the footer (content type npfido?), but that's off topic for now.

Do you have any content filters working in your Firefox on Windows that might be affecting image loading?

Does it help if you change the image paths, for example:

YOU HAVE:

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have seen the photos you sent links on and the images appear the same, but I don't understand the reference to my issue. I do not have any web filters enabled. Chrome displays fine. My computer man said that Firefox is a Mac browser, and that is possibly why it does not work well on a pc. I have uploaded a screenshot of what I see on Firefox. Can you suggest something further? Thanks much, Dave

Wow, that is not correct. Wow.

Thanks for the screen shot. Your background images and background colors are not displaying.

Do you use a "High Contrast" theme on your Windows? Firefox may not show background images and colors in that case.

To address that, try changing the following setting:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Content

Click the control below the phrase "Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above:" and choose Never, then OK that and try reloading your page.

Screen shot of the options page attached for reference.

If you use extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

If images are missing then check that you do not block images from some domains. You can tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar Check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"

Check "Tools > Page Info > Media" for blocked images

  • Select the first image link and use the cursor Down key to scroll through the list.
  • If an image in the list is grayed and "Block Images from..." has a checkmark then remove this checkmark to unblock images from this domain.

Make sure that you do not block (third-party) images, the permissions.default.image pref on the about:config page should be 1.

Hi! Thank you so very much for the hint: "Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above:" and choose Never". I have not ever put this setting on NEVER because occasionally I like a black background to surf the web. I've always checked USE SYSTEM COLORS or not, to switch to my black background, and had ALWAYS chosen for my drop down selection. Is choosing NEVER the only way that my website will view correctly? Unusual that may be the case, but it certainly looks perfect with NEVER selected. No other choices here seem to allow correct image display. Thanks immensely, Dave

Hi Dave, users with High Contrast Windows themes will see the broken display you saw. Since your site is extremely dependent on background images, that will be a problem for some subset of your users. I'm not sure of the best solution for that. Perhaps if you search around someone knows a trick for detecting that background images didn't load so you can adapt the page for those users.

I still only have one setting to change to get my black background, so it is no more difficult than before to do that. I will investigate a night mode add-on and see if I like what it might accomplish. Many thanks, Dave
