You can zoom out the about:newtab page to resize the tiles and have more tiles fit on the page.

  • View > Zoom > Zoom Out; Ctrl and -
"Zoom Text Only" shouldn't have a tick

This will affect all elements on the page, so text get smaller as well. Make sure that only one tab with the about:newtab page is open when you change the page zoom. Toggle the browser.newtab.preload pref to false on the about:config page in case of issues with remembering the page zoom of the about:newtab page.

I still don't have my tabs saved and I don't know what to do

more options

When you say you don't have your "tabs" saved, I'm not sure what you mean by that.

The page normally shows sites from your history that you visit frequently; that's automatic. But it sounds as though that isn't what you're looking for. (Or if it is what you want and it isn't working, maybe Firefox is clearing your history at shutdown?)

What do you want the page to show?

You can change the order of the boxes on the about:newtab page and drag an item to a different tile to pin it to that position or you can remove a website by clicking the close X to block that URL. You can drag a bookmark or history item from the sidebar and drop it in a tile on the about:newtab page to pin this item and have your own favorites sites present.

Changes made manually on the about:newtab page are stored in prefs that you can find on the about:config page.

  • browser.newtabpage.pinned stores websites that you have pinned to a tile.
  • browser.newtabpage.blocked stores websites that you have removed by clicking the X button in a tile.

If you do not keep web page that you have pinned to a tile then check for issues with the preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
