Adobe Flash Player Making Firefox Crash/Hang

Được đăng

So, I've been having this issue for sometime now. I went through all the help pages, read through all the different ones on Mozilla support and Adobe's official forums, and I haven't been able to stop it from crashing.

It started around a month ago, and I've just been trying to deal with it, but it has gotten to a ridiculous level of hanging. It almost never crashes, but it hangs indefinitely making me have to end it in the process area of the Windows Task Manager. It hangs when I open a new tab, when I'm mid-video, when I just leave it for too long, and randomly whenever it feels like it. And each time it looks different.

I also have some of my most recent crashes here if they are helpful:

Please update to the most recent version of Firefox:

Does this happen in Safe Mode? Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu , click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Do any of the hangs culminate in a slow script error dialog?

If you have modified the time to let scripts run before displaying that dialog, you might want to undo that change for diagnostic purposes. Here's how:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste script and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If either of the following preferences is bolded a "user set" you can reset them to default values by right-clicking them and choosing Reset:

  • dom.max_chrome_script_run_time
  • dom.max_script_run_time

One reason the Flash plugin could trip this error is the Protected Mode feature of the plugin. That feature has security benefits, but seems to have compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it by creating or editing a settings file. The following pages/posts provide different approaches for that:

Flash needs to completely unload from memory (exiting and starting Firefox up again might help) before this takes effect.

Thanks for the copy and paste reply, yes I have done all of these listed. As I stated, I have looked through a bunch of pages on here and the Adobe forums with no helpful answers. I updated to FF 35 and now 36, and it still has no difference what-so-ever. Also, Safe Mode does nothing.

I have used FF for a very long time, and this is only a recent issue after I updated both FF and Flash a while back. If I can't fix this I may just have to go to Chrome, but I REALLY don't want to have to do that.

Yes, a third of the time it will give me the slow script error. Sometimes it just hangs, sometimes it full on crashes. Sometimes the plugin container itself crashes, and sometimes the Flash Player plugin crashes. So I have no idea. Same with the last response, protected mode doesn't do anything. Plus, it won't save it in 32, only the 64 folder. (system32 and sysWOW64, respectively)

Some of your crash reports weren’t sent to the Mozilla Servers.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.

The last report says;

Process Type plugin Shockwave Flash Version:16.0.0.305

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

https://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

So, I've been having this issue for sometime now. I went through all the help pages, read through all the different ones on Mozilla support and Adobe's official forums, and I haven't been able to stop it from crashing. It started around a month ago, and I've just been trying to deal with it, but it has gotten to a ridiculous level of hanging. It almost never crashes, but it hangs indefinitely making me have to end it in the process area of the Windows Task Manager. It hangs when I open a new tab, when I'm mid-video, when I just leave it for too long, and randomly whenever it feels like it. And each time it looks different. I also have some of my most recent crashes here if they are helpful: bp-c108d7aa-e837-44f0-a5a6-b5cf52150224 2/23/2015 0508ff2b-b5b0-4c70-b73b-934819e6e224 2/23/2015 c90683a9-2287-4a19-a619-e1efdef4c747 2/22/2015 b0fb5635-f384-4997-956c-94e1856fa53e 2/21/2015 dacfbdc8-1265-43cd-930e-8c6097c191cd 2/19/2015 EDIT: Here are the 5 newest ones since he said 7-10 this will make a total of 10 now. d6d9738e-2bc0-44d1-8ada-23e8b622961f 2/25/2015 ce931c1e-6fd1-4967-9db2-086a44616c20 2/25/2015 d40a05b6-1639-42ca-9cb0-c883d649f1a8 2/24/2015 1c8fd87a-89c4-414f-b828-f9f346e36a45 2/24/2015 bp-d3ce79cb-c45e-44ca-8d7e-0f96c2150224 2/23/2015

I have the same problem. Flash Player hangs EVERYTIME. I have tried all the recommendations in the forum (safe mode, refresh, disable extensions, disable hardware acceleration....) and still have the problem. Here's my crash reports , any advise will be appreciated

Hi kurb, since you use MacOS X, unlike the original poster, there may be different issues. Could you start a new question and mention Mac in the subject to attract people who might be more familiar with Mac issues.

You can start a new question at the following link. Scroll down past the suggestions to continue submitting your question: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/fix-problems

Also, could you return to the about:crashes page and click the IDs that do not start with bp- because those may not be submitted yet. Posting those simplifies the research for forum volunteers. Thanks.

Hi kurb, didn't notice you already started a new question here: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1067573

Could you supplement it with some more submitted crash reports, the ones that start with bp- ? Thanks.

Check windows #system# firewall "allow application through a firewall". When downloading FF vs 38.0.5 from Mozilla site; It doesn't appear on the the windows firewall through list by default . I included it and now works a treat, unless it's decoy fix for something else.. Someone must confirm this.
