Can't sign into Hotmail.
For the past 2 months I've found it very difficult to sign into my Hotmail account using Firefox. Microsoft keep telling me to use a VPN or another device. I like answering emails on my computer because of its large screen. I've tried signing in about 2000 times now. Firefox told me they can't help me because I'm not a Mozilla subscriber even though they own Firefox. Microsoft told me it's Mozilla's problem. Can anyone help me please. John in the Philippines.

Hi again jscher, Well as I said before I can connect via my phone but the screen is too small and the keyboard also small for my larger fingers. I often hit 2 keys not to mention replying to emails takes 10 times longer. I've had the same home internet connections since 2019. Then there is the problem that there isn't any hotspot here where we live in Leyte Philippines. We are in the mountains and the internet is good. But we can't even send a text message on our phones because of no network coverage. I think the only solution is to use a new browser. I've read that Opera and a couple of others are better than Chrome. regards, John

Hey John in the PI!!! Ex. Air Force and I was there a few times. ;-)) Can you post a screenshot showing the issue. I'm in Hotmail on a daily basis with no issue. see screenshot Did you try with Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode#search
Did you clear your browser cache? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/clear-cookies-and-site-data-firefox
If you're running Windows Pro version, I would test in the Sandbox to confirm. https://www.howtogeek.com/399290/how-to-use-windows-10s-new-sandbox-to-safely-test-apps/
Hi Jonz, I tried replying to you on Hotmail with a screenshot but the message was I can't reply to your above address. Is it a valid email address? I did the Troubleshoot mode. If I clear the browser cache will I lose all my bookmarks etc? Thanks for your patience, John in Leyte.
Cache is just temp files from the internet. Will not remove bookmarks. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cache What security software besides MS Defender are you running?
Hi again, I tried the above and it still won't open Hotmail on Firefox. I'm on a Windows 11 computer and I can't work out how to send you a screenshot. Maybe you have an idea. When I try to send it to jonzn4SUSE it says no reply to sender. I will give it one more try tomorrow if you reply to this because on Thursday morning our time I must go to Ormoc city for 2-3 days and will only have my smartphone with me. By the way I can open Hotmail on my smartphone but the screen is small and my fingers are little large for the keyboard. Thanks again, John
Hi John, this site doesn't accept email replies. When you are posting here, you can attach saved images to a reply using the "Browse" button below the text box. But you can't just paste an image in (old software).
I know you prefer Firefox, but can you access Hotmail (Outlook) in Microsoft's Edge browser, or is that also not working?
Hi jscher,
I got someone to help me transfer the screenshot below from my phone to my computer as it was too difficult for me. I never use Edge for anything and prefer to stick with Hotmail and Firefox if possible as I've been with them since they started and I trust them. Tomorrow morning Philippine time I'm off to Ormoc city for about 3 days. I may not reply to this until Sunday, but sure do appreciate your help plus Jonzn help. bye for now, John in Leyte.
Hi again, I hope you got my screenshot above. I'm home again from Ormoc city last night. I've tried signing in today about 300 times using both my Hotmail password plus I also tried many times a Firefox Security Generated Password. It's just so depressing. This afternoon I missed a online delivery man because I couldn't open my Hotmail for the delivery date. I'm seriously now thinking of dropping Firefox for Chrome as I'm worn out. I don't want to do it as I've been with Firefox since the beginning when Netscape folded up, so I'm emotionally attached to Firefox, but they sure aren't to me. Maybe it's because I live in far away Philippines in an obscure Province of Leyte that I just don't register on their radar as important. Let me know if you got the above screenshot I sent to jscher. I'm off to sleep now. Goodnight. regards, John in Leyte.
Hi John, you should use any browser you need to use to access Hotmail. We already discussed testing Microsoft Edge earlier in this thread to see whether that makes any difference.
When I search the error message on Google, there are comments on Microsoft's support site about adopting two-factor authentication. The URL referenced on the error screen seems to lead to: >Error 400 when signing in. That also promotes alternatives methods of login. I don't know whether that really is the issue, or whether some setting in Firefox makes the request look suspicious.
Is your Hotmail account the same account you use the sign in to Windows? If so, my guess is that Microsoft Edge will piggyback on your system login and work more easily.
From Firefox's side, try this:
(1) On the error page, clear cookies using this method: click the lock icon at the left end of the address bar. On the drop-down panel, click "Clear cookies and site data...". Most likely, this will only affect the "login.live.com" server and not the other related servers.
(2) On the error page, add an exception for Tracking Protection: click the shield icon at the left end of the address bar (just left of the lock). On the drop-down panel, click the blue slider switch to disable protection.
Does that make any difference?
Another option is to access your mail through a stand-alone app. I assume you do not have a paid subscription to Microsoft 365, which includes the stand-alone Outlook app. Windows previously came with a Microsoft Mail app; that has been replaced with a streamlined/free/ad-supported version of Outlook. I'm assuming it is optimized to work with Microsoft's various email services. More info: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/outlook/outlook-for-windows
Thank you jscher.
I've given up trying to log into Hotmail because I'm losing business and appointments. I've signed in via Microsoft which I hate doing. But I've also noticed there is no way to sign out in the top right corner. Even my name etc is missing. This will have to do for the meantime until I can get further help as I'm not a technician. Thank you again for your patience with me. John in Leyte.
Hi again jscher, I signed into Hotmail yesterday ok using MSN. Now today MSN is rejecting me and telling me to get a VPN. Now I'm 100% confused that I can't sign in using MSN or Edge or Firefox. Any suggestions please. ps. I can sign in using my Smartphone but the screen is tiny and my fingers a little large for finger typing which takes a very long time on my emails. regards, John in Leyte.
Hi John, I don't know why Outlook doesn't like your home internet connection. If it's part of your mobile plan, you could temporarily connect to a hotspot on your phone instead of your home WiFi while working with your email, then disconnect for other browsing.

Hi jscher,
I've changed the password and all seems ok just now. I've tested it twice and no problems.
Thanks again for ALL YOUR FANTASTIC HELP from this Aussie guy up in the mountains of backward Province of Leyte. John
