Firefox will not load any website after an update
After every update, Firefox starts to a blank screen and will not start loading the webpage url put in for over twenty minutes to a half hour. During this time other browsers on my Win 10 PC load immediately so it is not a network issue. It is Firefox. When I see that an update is pending I hesitate to do the update because I know I will lose the use of Firefox until it is ready to respond. It just hangs with "loading X.com" showing at the bottom left of the blank screen. I have been using Firefox for a long time and in the past year or longer it has become very unreliable. There are also instances where without an update it will do this and the only way I can get it to work is to clear the cache and the history through settings. What is going on with Firefox! (And lately there is an update every couple fo days!

Hello,
I am very sorry you experienced this issue. To help Firefox developers locate it, we would greatly appreciate a profile of the issue occurring. It is extremely important for deploying a fix.

The problem with creating a profile is once Firefox begins to update I lose all ability to do anything on Firefox until after the download ends AND Firefox displays a website - which can take ten to 20 minutes - and then it works just fine - and there is nothing to profile other than a working Firefox. During that time if I need to be online I have no choice but to use another browser - whether Windows Edge, Brave, etc. which load immediately after any updates and always load immediately when opened - with full access to the browser. I had to laugh following one update of Firefox when a screen opened that said report an issue - and when I attempted to click on the screen to respond I had no access to the screen - as it then went to the usual blank screen as described in this problem.
I have used Firefox for many, many years - it has never been as bad as it is currently! I am using Win 10 on an Acer desktop. I can't be the only one experiencing this issue.
I see, thank you for the explanation. I am going to create a bug report for your issue, but first I want to clarify some details.
First, you mentioned that Firefox did not load any websites. Were you able to interact with Firefox interface, or did it just hang on completely?
Second, you mentioned that happening after updates. When exactly did it happen, after the restart, after the download started or after the download was completed? How often did it happen without an update?
You mentioned that clearing cache and history helped. Did you try that after an update? Did you try clearing only cache, for example?

Once an update restarts - I get my home page with website icons saved. I go to a website with an icon or entering the URL and a blank page opens OR a half page - top of the page is there - rest of the website page is blank. At the bottom left of the screen it says "loading...". Without an update it has rarely happened - though there have been times when it has. What I do is go to the History settings on the security menu under tools and I clear the cache. Just clearing the cache has worked but it does not work immediately. What I do is leave FF open and running on the webpage I am trying to access and go to another browser which opens webpages immediately. I stay with the other browser for about 20 to 30 minutes - when I have checked back to FF - if the same thing is happening I go back to the other browser and let FF continue to load the webpage. Eventually it works and I go back to FF. When this has happened without an update I clear both the cache and the history - again the fix is not immediate. It takes the same time to come back.
This is not my network or internet provider or the PC, or Windows, or Windows Defender as other browsers load immediately and respond immediately. I can't recall when this started but it started before the new year. And too often now new updates come in for FF - and I hesitate now to update because all of this happens again. There was a time that FF worked flawlessly. I can't believe that I am the only one experiencing this - or others just put up with it.
I really don't want to give up using Firefox. If I did I would not have posted the issue here hoping for a fix.
Hello again,
Sorry for the delay, I hoped to get some more reports regarding the issue, but looks as yours is the only one at the moment. I've filled a bug report, so that our developer team may take a look. However, if you have any additional details to share (e.g., try to make some screenshots when the problem arises again), you are welcome to add them here or on Bugzilla. I will keep you updated.
Hello,
Do you still experience the issue? If you do, Mike Conley has just raised a good question in Bugzilla: does it persist in Troubleshoot Mode?
strangely, just following the procedure to enable the "profiler toolbar button" seems to have fixed the problem. I did not run the profiler. See Denys above comment 6/3/2025 2:29pm

Tried this - and it made it worse. Last update with profiler tool button loaded - and Firefox would not load websites for two days. Tired clearing the cache and history settings three times - after the two days it was still not loading websites - and then I tried clearing the cache and history settings again - went off to use another browser which loaded and showed pages immediately - after a half hour - of letting Firefox just sit there not loading a website - it finally worked. Best solution - NEVER update Firefox again!
