Firefox 152.0.6 on Fedora 43 xfce vm crashes when one window loads

svs

Hello all, I have FF 152.0.6 in use on Fedora 43 xfce Qubes OS VMs. The only issue I have encountered is when I try to load the web UI for Proxmox Datacenter Manager. As soon as I log in to the web UI Firefox vanishes. I have tried this in troubleshooting mode with the same results. I can open the same web UI in a Debian 13 Qube and it works perfectly. The FF version there is v.140.13.0esr. These are simply the default versions that come with Qubes 4.3 templates. I can also access the web UI in the original Fedora Qube with Chromium browser with no crash. I have also tried a different Fedora qube with the same failure result as the original.

I can use Chromium but would prefer a streamlined experience with just one browser. I thank all of you in advance any thoughts or suggestions. I am a long time Firefox and Mozilla user.

Have a great day. SS

Let's see if there's anything relevant in the crash logs:

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted (and Unsubmitted, if any) Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Thanks for the reply. I am glad I could harvest these crash reports.

Here are the last 5.

I appreciate the help and the learning experience!!

Yup, it's there. And I see the one from safe mode as well. That's a very… unique crash. It's only filed by automation:

Would you be willing to run mozregression on both distros, to check whether e.g. 140 works fine on both, or any version fails on one and all work on the other to help understand the difference?

Another interesting thing would be if you can "Save page as…" as complete archive on the working setup, and try opening that "local" HTML archive on the crashing VM and see if the static copy also crashes it? If so, and you e.g. could redact the data shown if sensitive, using that as a form of a reduced test case to attach to the bug above would be helpful.

Thanks for the reply. I have set up a duplicate vm for fedora and am in the process of figuring out and running mozgression.

The testing I performed with mozregression shows the last version to function properly was v148.0a1 The date of the last functioning version was 12-15-25. The version 148.0a1 dated 12-17-25 failed like everything after that date. Does this help?

Thanks again SS

When I perform the mozregression test on Debian 13 vm I get the following results

Version 148.0a1 dated 12.8.25 good

                                            12.13.25 good
                                            12.17.25 bad

any version tested after 12.17.25 tested bad also.

I hope this gives you direction you need.

SS

Thanks, this means that the only difference in your case really is running the 140esr vs 15x.y release.

(That said, if you need to get unblocked, just install the ESR update channel instead of the current release on that other system as well, to get around this for now.)

I've been trying to look up some online demo of the admin panel and was not successful. Do you think you would be able to save a complete page archive of that one that's crashing v148+ … try if just the saved offline copy also crashes the v148 … and redact somehow potentially sensitive text content — to be able to use that as a form of reduced test case to attach to a bug? (I believe at that point it wouldn't have to be VM per se or specific OS or distro to repro, it should crash on anything with HW accel disabled at that point…)

Or perhaps when you get the chance, would you be able to run the DEC 15 to DEC 17 mozregression range further down to integration/changeset level, to confirm which of these changes were likely to be the culprit? hg-edge.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/pushloghtml?startdate=2025-12-14&enddate=2025-12-18 — Thanks!

(I still hope this could be tracked down to something that will just need a feature flag, or could be disabled in a pref.)

Please overlook my lack of understanding. I am a simple hobbyist with zero education in IT, networking or HTML. I am not totally clear on what you are requesting. Do you want me to forward the HTML file that was saved as an offline copy? Obviously one that crashes browser. No need for any redaction on my part. I spun up this VM just for this testing. If my assumption about your request is in error, can you explain more? Also how would you want this forwarded to you?

Thanks SS

Oh I just figured the "Proxmox Datacenter Manager" doesn't have any publicly available instance to introspect what trips up the render, so this is an attempt to try to save a copy of the page and assets, and see if just that local snapshot is enough to reproduce the crash on another machine as well.

Basically I meant just trying to grab something like How to save a web page on the actual page that causes crashes on the newer release, saved via the older release. (Format: "Web page, complete" — that will create an html index and a folder with relative assets.)

You can either upload a zipped page archive to the bug linked earlier, or if you have a preferred storage/filesharing platform you can just share a link here — I'll try to check if I can crash that copy using some software rendering.

Hello again. Just FYI I followed your suggestion and changed to the Firefox ESR repo and reinstalled. Of course no problems once that was done. I went ahead and saved the page that crashes Firefox (both HTML and accompanying files for you. Please find tje following g-drive link I prepared containing the zip file.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GDN-a_Xy1S-qA2xwsYQzguj6oN6SvQ8f/view?usp=sharing

Thanks for all your help and I hope this helps nail down the issue
