attachments won't open

I use Thunderbird for my Gmail. In Thunderbird A PaintShop program I used to open graphics is gone and I have a new PaintShop program, but now the attachments will not open with my new program.
When you click to open the attachment, do you receive a prompt from Thunderbird?
