how to change next email when delete email

i sort my email in descending order to get most recent on top. when i delete email how do i get it to display the 'prev' email? (i start at the oldest i haven't read and then delete wanting to see the next oldest). functionality works in outlook. I really want to get away from MS. thanks in advance. jerry k
