Inbox changes type font to gobbledegook

I can receive emails perfectly but sometimes they get changed in my in box to unreadable text which I called gobbledegook above. This happens to a block of messages, not all those received.

right click the folder, select properties and then repair. And dstop your anti virus scanning you Thunderbird profile folder. A leading cause of this type of error
