FF closes automatically and cannot be restarted without PC restart

FF suddenly closes, and when I want to relaunch, it fails. A relaunch only works if I restart Windows 7 and start FF once again.

Hi, Thank you for your question, I am suspicious that Firefox might still be listed in the Task Manager after you close it the first time, if this is the case, please stop the program from the Task Manager.

Please also see:

Did these help?

Neither of the suggestions solves the problem!

The phenomenon occurs whenever I try to scroll down a long webpage. FF crashes, anhd I cannot relaunch. FF is not listed in the Task Manager at this point.

Have you any other suggestions?

Further news: After looking more deeper into the Task Manager, I discovered that FF (32-bit) was listed after all. I closed the application, exited the Task Manager and relaunched FF. It then worked. However, I ask myself: what is causing this? I don't want to go through this procedure every time FF suddenly disappears from the screen. What can be done in terms of settings, etc.?

Does that happen in Firefox safe mode? If not, it could be an extension or hardware acceleration causing the problem. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_crashes

finitarry, if it actually creates a crash report, this could help with investigation. But please first try Safe Mode.

In safe mode the error apparentloy does not occur, but I can't be too sure, as it is not certain what exactly triggers the error. Up to now, I have only noticed that it seems to happen when I try to scroll down the screen. The tip about Task Manager was great; at least I could escape the situation rather promptly. Any more ideas?

You could try disabling hardware acceleration in normal mode, and if that does not help, it is probably an extension causing the problem. You will then have to disable extensions until you find the one responsible.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode;

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it and select Submit.

Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box below and paste them in.
