after a successful firefox download, I can't seem to connect to internet using firefox

I downloaded firefox successfully. When I went to use firefox instead of my internet exployer I couldn't seem to connect to my internet using firefox. So I went back to my internet exployer and it worked fine. So I uninstalled firefox and redownloaded to see if that fixed the problem. No luck, still the same problem. I can download it but unable to connect. don't understand the problem, can someone help?

A common cause for this is a firewall blocking Firefox. For more details on that and other possible causes see Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can.
