Gentlemen, isn't your browser using a lot of RAM? I've been freaking out about it in recent years. That's only with 25 tabs open!! Despite the fact that the system was installed just a day ago, without any tweaks!!!

Hi

Do you have many tabs open or many add-ons installed in Firefox?

There are 9 active add-ons. There are 11 fixed tabs and 14 open tabs.

HI. Sadly I notice this too, but can cope with it. 8Gb RAM on my Raspberry Pi 5 64Gb µSD

I only have two tabs open, this and another static page from my own site. My site is really small, the whole thing is only hundreds of megs, so Fx is very demanding with even a blank page.

However the 7Gb you see ....hmm! is that RAM the table headers are not shown. You can see the RAM for my two pages is 1.2Gb

My Fx uses loads of virtual RAM that makes no sense to me, but ???

That's not enough.. I got up to 24 gigabytes!!!! This is with 30-40 tabs open. I use 3 more browsers periodically - none consumes so much RAM! It's already 8.5 gigabytes =(((

What happens if you open one tab in a new profile (no add-ons)?

The window is open in private mode. The rest are all closed at the time of the screenshot.

As I understand it, firefox doesn't have support, it just doesn't give a shit about users. It's just fucking complete!

Hi. You seem to be quite upset about your situation. Is it really still about the amount of RAM being used?

If the browser uses 50% or more of all RAM, do you think this is a great solution? I've been using this browser for more than 10 years, but in recent years it has become a resource eater, so I'll use others. It's just a shame.

You must be very demanding as on my RaspPi | 8Gb only about 15% (1,2Gb) and on my Win 11 with 16Gb the same 8% (1,2Gb)

Yes it is a lot though but this is the only open source browser that I can find that is useful.

20 years and I have looked at other browsers, but this is still the one. Opera would be a choice but it's not open source so I can't do what I want.

Wouldn't touch Brave as it is Google bound and I shy away from anything Google, feel bad even typing the word :D

win 11 - the browser uses 14 gb. It went up to 24 gb. This is with 30-40 tabs open. That's just an OBSCENE amount!!!

Yes a bit of a concern, but then why keep 30 to 40 tabs open, you know it's going to use a lot of resources. ???

I'll probably surprise you, but they're all WORKERS. Your remark is fundamentally wrong. Maybe then we'll just register a browser for 3 tabs or four

Your remark is fundamentally wrong.

People have ideas, they are not wrong if they don't fit your situation, but I can't see using 30 to 40 tabs being a surprise load as I haven't done that.

Could it be that the sites you are accessing are putting lots of strain, soem site more than others.

Do you check which sites do what.

Also I'm not sure about the sandboxing that Firefox does to isolate potential `risks to security', that may take up lots of RAM if it does not stash it on the 'hard' drive.

But generally Firefox does use more memory than other browsers I have read about, so it is not a surprise that you have 20Gb. Maybe the best part of 1Gb for each sandbox.

Excellent solution! There are no suggestions from developers, and the solution from users is not to use so many tabs. It's just brilliant. "Why do you live, you will die anyway" I think the topic can be closed due to the lack of technical support.

Not sure this is a place for technical support, it's a place for peer to peer 'support' and just responding can be helpful. Buying more RAM etc. is just the addictive gave consumerism loves, but like you said what choice is there. A so called 'live' at least open source. My next laptop will probably have 32Gb just to think it will cope. But I hang in with as little as i can thing this may get em through the next ten years :)

A but stressy but still a nice topic.
