Hello,

I recently switched to Linux and have been having trouble getting my bookmarks from my android device to sync to my desktop (Linux Mint). I have bookmarks enabled on the sync menu on both platforms, but I can't get them to sync over to my desktop from mobile at all; my only current option would be to painstakingly open them one-by-one from my desktop sync with the open tabs viewer (as I can't open all open tabs at once on Linux Firefox for some reason).

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just to tell me that this feature doesn't work on Linux.

Thanks, - Qwin

Hi Qwin

If you sign into your account at https://accounts.firefox.com/signin do you see both devices listed under "Connected Services"?

This could be related to the updated sidebar design. The menu changed. If you do not need vertical tabs, you can easily switch back to the classic design, at least long enough to use this menu. To do that, on the Settings/Preferences page, in the Browser Layout section, uncheck the box for "Show sidebar".

@jscher2000 This did in fact solve the problem I was having with opening multiple tabs! Thank you so much! I'm still not able to see my bookmarks shared across devices though.

I do in fact see both devices listed, and can see open tabs from either side, but no shared bookmarks. From previous efforts, I remember there being a "Mobile Bookmarks" folder that was created when I synced bookmarks, but I don't see one in my dropdown.

When I check on Windows, there's a Mobile Bookmarks fly-out list below Other Bookmarks in these places:

  • Menu bar > Bookmarks [on Windows, Alt+B]
  • Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+B)
  • Library window (Ctrl+Shift+O as in Organizer)

Are all of those missing on yours?

You can check what data is in the Sync cloud for your Mozilla Account using the About Sync add-on:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/about-sync/

After you install the add-on, you can type or paste about:sync in the address bar and press Enter to load it. The page shows each category of data currently found in the Sync cloud.

Unlike some other categories, Firefox doesn't group the bookmarks by source, so it's more a matter of Ctrl+F and looking for a mobile-only bookmark title on the Records (table) mini-tab to confirm that they made it to the cloud.

I either deleted the Mobile Bookmarks folder or it wasn't there to begin with, but I do recall it being there on install to Linux, yes.

I don't see anything with a "mobile" bookmark title in that extension, so it would seem my mobile bookmarks aren't syncing properly/at all.

It's strange that you can sync open tabs from mobile but not bookmarks from mobile. I don't have an explanation for that. I don't suppose it helps to turn bookmark sync off and back on again on your mobile Firefox?

I'm afraid not. I've just tried reinstalling firefox, and resyncing, to no effect. While i'm happy to try other options, at this point i'll likely just open each bookmark folder on my android device and then open the synced tabs on my computer. It's seeming like a strange problem to solve regarding the issue at hand so that will work in the interim.
