Thunderbird quit working on laptop but address works on web

Been a user for years and had no problems. When I double click on the Thunderbird icon, program opens and asks for password. It will not accept the password regardless which of the two PW settings is selected. I have no problem collecting mail from the net with a browser. Using Win 7. Any ideas???
