The windows reset removed the TB app and I don't know whether or not I have to start from scratch inputting email accounts paswords, etc., or if there's a profile somewhere on my laptop which will restore that information.

Thanks in advance of any help - or consoling words ;-) - you can offer.

Is there a windows.old directory created by the reset? Look for an ...AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird folder in there, since it will contain your previous data. Enable the viewing of hidden files and folders, as AppData is hidden by default.

There is indeed such a folder! In fact there's two, one for FF and one for TB. Is the process of restoration the same for both FF and TT?

Thank you so much for your help - I very much appreciate your time. M

The default location of the active Thunderbird folder is:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird

Delete the existing Thunderbird folder, if it doesn't have any critical data, and replace it with the Thunderbird folder from the ...Roaming folder in windows.old, while TB is closed. When you start TB, it should (but sometimes doesn't, thanks to bugs in TB 68) recognize your old data. If it starts with an empty setup, it's still possible to import data from the previous profile.

The same applies to Firefox, although instead of a Thunderbird folder, look for C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox

Thank you again. As it's nearly bedtime I'll defer further action until tomorrow but I'm very grateful for your help.
