I cannot logout of Facebook.com when I am using Firefox. I can logout of Facebook.com when using another browser, Safari for example, but there is simply no way to do so when using Firefox. I could log out of Facebook using Firefox as recently as this morning, but in the intervening hours Firefox has lost that capability. How do I restore this rather elementary capability to Firefox?

Are you saying that you press the 'log out' link, you are still logged in? Is this with many websites, some, a few?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to. You may also lose any settings for that website.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Did this help?

While you are in safe mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

I've attached a screenshot.

When I click on the arrow on the far right, instead of being presented with a drop down menu of options (among which is "Logout"), I am instead redirected to the screen shown.

I've cleared my browsing history, including both cookies & cache, yet the problem persists. This does not happen with the Safari browser, only with Firefox. There is clearly a problem with using Facebook on Firefox, not a problem with using Facebook in general.

If clearing cookies didn't help then It is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • rename/remove cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and when present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
